Événement destiné aux 1re année Pau

At the end of these days of intense activity, the 1st year students in Pau invite you to join them on Friday February 6 at 4:30 pm for a collective restitution of their workshop.

PLOTTER CLUB, with C. Brulé
A plotter is a numerically controlled machine that moves a tool (pen, felt-tip or other) to trace shapes on a support. Unlike printers, it operates slowly, based on movement, and its relative simplicity means that you can tinker with every aspect of it to take a more plastic, analog approach to computer-aided production.

This machine has a very special place in the history of digital art, as the first tool for materializing computer programs (even before the existence of screens) and as a companion for writing protocols. Somewhat forgotten in the face of technical progress, these machines allow us to address questions of standardization and efficiency on large formats, but also to produce images by hand, leaving plenty of room for accident.

During this event, we’ll be looking at the materiality of digital images, the notion of protocol in the composition of collective images, and our relationship with production tools.

I’ve often thought of the machine as my lord and master, whose hair I had to comb like a slave. I had to comb neither too fast nor too slow. I had to comb carefully and methodically so as not to break any hair, and the comb had to not fall out. If I didn’t do it right, I was pruned.

GOOD REVOLUTION, with F. Mallorca
This highlight invites us to explore positive protest: a way of expressing ideas, values and commitments with creativity, humor and optimism.
Through posters, leaflets, banners and more, students imagine forms of protest that unite rather than oppose.

sound f(r)ictions, with V. Meyer
During this short highlight, you will be invited to produce a sound piece around the question of sound f(r)iction. In other words, the concatenation of two notions defined as follows: Fiction, a product of the imagination that has no complete model in reality. Friction, resistance to movement between two surfaces in contact.

You’ll produce a “micro” sound fiction lasting 1 to 2 minutes, using sound recording and editing. Whether you’re planning a career in art or graphic design, you don’t need to know anything about music to join this workshop. You just need to be curious about the physical phenomenon of vibrations, a sensation transmitted from the body (not just the ear) to the brain.

On the program: presentation of plastic, textual and sound references… simple technical training (hardware and software) for recording and sound editing, collection of material in the field, listening sessions and follow-up of productions… restitution of projects at the end of the session.
