Facilities and equipment
In Pau
The premises are located in the Espace des Arts, which brings together on the same site the Musée des Beaux-arts and the École supérieure d’art et de design des Pyrénées. In a completely renovated art deco building in the heart of the city, the school offers 4,000 m² of space: workshops, technical workshops, library, auditorium, cafeteria and offices.
Workshops
Each class has its own workshop. Students occupy their own space, while teachers move around each workshop.
Public workshops and courses also have their own workshop.
Technical workshops
The Pau site offers 11 technical workshops, in which students are accompanied by teachers and technicians:
- construction
- editing and finishing
- engraving
- silver photo lab (currently being set up)
- DTP
- photo retouching and reprography
- risography
- screen printing
- photo studio
- video and sound studio
In Tarbes
The Tarbes site is located in the heart of the city center, at the entrance to jardin Massey, an 11-hectare landscaped park dating from the mid-19th century and classified as a Remarkable Garden. The villa housing the school offers 1900 m² of space: workshops, technical and ceramic workshops, cafeteria and rest area, offices.
Workshops
Each class has its own workshop. Students occupy their own space, while teachers move around each workshop.
Public workshops and courses have their own dedicated space in the former Carmel building, a stone’s throw from the school at 10 ter rue Jean Larcher in Tarbes.
Ceramics
The special feature of the Tarbes site is its ceramics workshop, organized into 3 rooms.
Plaster room
Equipment: 2 marbles, extra-fine molding plasters, 1 plaster lathe, small equipment specific to plaster work.
Practical exercises: students can work on molding techniques specific to their projects. Molds for a variety of uses: ceramics, casting, stamping, molds for wax, chocolate or other prints…
They can also create their own prototypes, sculptures and assemblies.
Clay room
Equipment: work tables, 1 crusting machine, 1 plodding machine, 1 extruder, 3 lathes (potter’s wheels), loaves, clays, stoneware and porcelain for modeling and turning.
Practices: modeling techniques, estampages and sculptures.
The clay workshop also offers the opportunity to carry out all kinds of tests, mix materials and textures, assemble and build.
kiln room
Equipment: 1 casting bench, 1 large-capacity gas kiln, 1 large-capacity electric kiln, 1 medium-capacity electric kiln, 1 small-capacity electric kiln, 1 wood-fired kiln, 2 hotpots (microwave raku firing), 1 proofer, 1 glazing booth.
Practical work: here, students are introduced to pouring, engobages and enameling techniques. They can witness (and practice) the “setting up” of kilns and the “dismantling” of their pieces. Through their projects, students learn all the techniques and know-how involved in ceramics.
Technical workshops
The school has a multi-material construction workshop and a DTP workshop.
