“Art & Mountain” European workshop

“Art & Mountain” European workshop

The “Art & Mountain” workshop was held in the Aspe Valley from April 20 to 24, 2026, as part of a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) funded by the Erasmus+ program. The program brought together participants from ÉSAD Pyrénées and three European partner institutions: the Zaragoza School of Art (Spain), the University of Cluj-Napoca (Romania) and the Palermo Academy of Fine Arts (Italy). In all, 5 teachers and 9 students took part in this immersive experience.

The workshop was structured around alternating walks and periods of in situ creation, accompanied by artist Rémi Duprat and theoretician-teacher Corinne Melin, with the aim of questioning the relationship between art and mountains.

During the hikes, Rémi Duprat proposed artistic experiments inspired in particular by the gestures and know-how of shepherds, inviting participants to anchor themselves in a concrete and situated relationship with the territory. At the same time, teachers guided sensory experiences, encouraging greater attention to perceptions and interactions with the mountain environment. Each participant was invited to propose artistic gestures or experiments, contributing to a collective dynamic based on exchange and a collaborative approach.

To round off this European program, an online conference will be given to all participants by Cécile Archambeaud, director of the Image/Imatge gallery and curator, and Emma Bourras, in charge of mediation at Image/Imatge. They will present the process they used for the “Je bergère, tu bergères…” exhibition in 2025. This exhibition will serve as a starting point for discussion about the artists and their connections to the rural and mountain worlds.
