Jeudi cinéma | "Les fleurs de l'est poussent aussi"

On Thursday April 2, 2nd and 3rd year art students from the Studio Vidéo, and their teacher Jean-Paul Labro, invite you to a screening of two documentary films from Yuyuan Ma’s series Les fleurs de l’est poussent aussi.

Les fleurs de l’est poussent aussi is a documentary web series. The six 20-minute episodes fit together like a jigsaw puzzle, highlighting the situation of eco-peasants at a societal level. They also show how the essence of the Chinese philosophy “天人合一”, according to which humanity and nature are one, still manifests itself in the modern context. A website has been set up to host the series and articles by players in the world of agriculture to help understand the issues facing the Chinese peasantry.

Yuyuan Ma graduated from Beijing Forestry University in 2015, then from ÉSAD Pyrénées (DNSEP Design - mention design graphique multimédia) in 2025, and now lives and works in Béarn, France. A freelance graphic designer, she also takes a keen interest in the question of subsistence, particularly within militant circles. She devotes the other half of her time to running a nursery, which forms a basis for the documentation of her work, with the aim of raising awareness of emerging agricultural practices.
